The Shifters played on the
Indianapolis blues circuit from Nov. 1993 until Jan. 1996. The
houserocking blues band was formed of veteran muscians:
"Fast" John Scharbrough on guitar, Allen Banks on
electric and stand up bass, Tom Harold, vocals and blowing the
harmonica and Dennis Cavanaugh on the drums.
Fast John played lead guitar in Sleprock,The Cruisematics,The
Michigan St. Blues Band, and once played backup for the late
great "Lefty " Leroy Bates. John is in the Michigan
Street Blues Band and opened up for Edgar Winter and 38 Special.
Alan Banks is a soulful jazz influenced bass guitarist who has
played with the Jimmie Coe big band, Robert Coleman, Class
Action, Govenor Davis, and The Kelly Jay Orchestra and more. Alan
jams live on the standup as well as the electric bass.
Tom Harold is an extremely talented harmonica playerand vocalist, and started tearing up
the blues scene with Automatic 32, then joined the Shifters. Now
Tom backs up blues master guiter player Gordon Bonahm, and
appeared on the CD " Low down and Blue"
Drummer Dennis Cavanagh keeps time currently for No Regrets,a
first class Indpls. band and is a well polished veteran of the
Indy music scene. Legend tell us of the time Dennis was in the
army, he had his drums shiped to Vietnam! He really loves to play
those drums..
The last gig was Nov 8th, 1998 at The Slippery Noodle Inn,
Indpls. In.
For a lot of
money I could probably talk these guys into doing another gig. (
email me if your rich and need a cool blues band. )
